Porter Harp – Drinking Season - William Alan Photo

I designed the artwork for Porter Harp‘s critically acclaimed CD: Drinking Season.

Below is the cover artwork. The truck photo on the left is actually a composite of 3 images and some early, hand blended HDR. I did the portrait of Porter in his practice space which he called the Brady Bunch Jam Room.  It is a simple one light set up including ambient light.Porter.Harp.Drinking.SeasonEc-E

When I was pitching ideas, several were under consideration… at least by me. This photo is from Gas Works Park in Seattle. I still like the concept although it may be a bit playful for the actual mood of the album.~313-1312_IMG copy2-E

I thought it could work as a back cover too…~313-1312_IMG_blkredtextE-E

I had other visual ideas like this one:  kd1 copy-E

Originally I had Porter write out the names of his songs on a white piece of paper. I scanned this and we were going to use his actual hand writing for the song listing on the back. Eventually this idea was abandoned due to time and various changes to the final song titles.

Another idea was to include a bunch of photos and memorabilia from concerts and events from the extensive Porter Harp archive on the inside cover. Printing costs put this idea in the “maybe later” pile. Here is a behind the scenes photo including my tripod legs and the reflector.
